While the Solomon Kane stories all take place in various countries, Kane is no stranger to the seas. In the poem “Solomon Kane’s Homecoming”, he thus recounts a naval battle against the Spanish fleet. We also know Sir Francis Drake himself called him “Devons’s king of swords”. In “The Blue Flame of Vengeance”, we see Kane acquainted with a number of pirates (or buccaneers turned pirates) and learn that he has been witness to some cruel deeds committed by those people he thought were on his side, all of which may (or may not) explain why he now roams the earth rather than the seas…
