What’s up Wednesday: The Joan of Arc comic book

You may recall that back in March, word slipped out about a Time of Legends: Joan of Arccomic book. We were neck deep in the pledge manager at the time so decided we would wait till it was over to give a full What’s up Wednesday to a project that everyone here at Mythic Games is very excited about.

Of course, now we’ve come around to do the update the pledge manager is open again. This time it’s just a short burst to mop up outstanding pledges so it will not get in the way of us shining an overdue spotlight onto Joan’s adventures into the comic book world.

I will now hand you over to Leo, who sat down with Les Dabel of Dabel Brothers Publishing to bring you the scoop on all things Joan of Arc comic book. Make sure to scroll down past the French version of the interview to check out some awesome images from it too.

Can you introduce yourself and your publishing company to our readers?

My name is Les Dabel and I am one of the founders of Dabel Brothers Publishing. Dabel Brothers is a publishing company that specializes in the adaptation of movies, games and bestselling novels into comics, graphic novels and coloring books. We are also huge fans of the properties we work on.

What other famous adaptations have you made?

Many! We have worked on the prequal to HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time”, “Warriors” the movie, Jim Butcher’s “The Dresden Files”, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Laurell K. Hamilton’s “Anita Blake”, Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist” Orson Scott Card’s “The Enders Game” and we are currently working on a “MEG” graphic novel, the new Jason Statham movie coming out this August where he goes against a gigantic shark, plus many more. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with some of my all-time favorite artists such as Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell and the Hildebrandt brothers.

What attracted you to Time of Legends: Joan of Arc?

My brother Ernst, saw the trailer for the game and fell in love. Knowing that I am a huge history buff, he emailed me the trailer and I also instantly fell in love. The rest is history ;). Working with the Mythic Games team has been amazing. Every time we meet someone new in the company, we realize how dedicated they are and this kind of energy is what motivates Dabel Brothers.

Can you describe the form of the comics? Is it a series to follow? Does it have an end? Will you have more than one series? What is the release date?

The first comic will launch early July and will be a standalone comic setting the stage for the series. We will have a total of 4 issues for the first arc and we would love to see it as an ongoing project. Pre-orders will start later this month, you can sign up here to find out more: https://www.dabelbrothers.com/joa . The prequal takes us to the series which will start October of this year and will be released as a monthly comic.

Do you do historical research for your scenarios?

Yes definitely. That is the fun part with these types of projects. You may think you know the history well but the more digging you do, the more you realize that there is a lot more to learn.

A last word for our backers?

The comics will come packed with surprises and goodies. Besides the great story and beautiful art, we are working on finding a way to connect each comic issue to the Joan of Arc game. The comics will be used as a tool to enhance the players game experience. Make sure you head over to https://www.dabelbrothers.com/joa and sign up today.
